- EDDY RUSSELL SCHOLARSHIP
The Eddy Russell Family Scholarship is presented in memory of Butner School Board member and community leader, Eddy Russell.
Born in Yukon, OK in 1918, E. C. (Eddy Russell) moved his family to the Cromwell area in 1954. The Russell’s operated a cattle and Quarter Horse ranch in the area known as the
Eddy Russell served on the school board at Excelsior and was a driving force in the consolidation of Excelsior, Butner and Cromwell Schools. During his time on the “new” Butner school board, he was instrumental in implementing not only the Vo-Ag/FFA, and Industrial Arts programs but also the football program during the early 1960s. He and his fellow board members also arranged for the construction of the sports complex, football and baseball fields. As Butner School Board President, Russell presided over the construction of the new high school and cafeteria as well as the renovation of the auditorium in 1967.
Russell also served on the Seminole County Fair board for over 20 years and was one of the original organizers of the Cromwell Fire Dept.
Russell’s 3 children, Gayle, Keith and Tim all graduated
from Butner High school. The scholarship is awarded by his widow, Norma
